First there was Seiko. And then there was Grand Seiko, the hidden gem of Japanese watchmaking, rivalling the top swiss luxury brands, known only to the nerdiest watch community. Grand Seiko was only available for the japanese domestic market and seldom available outside the country. This changed in 2010 when Grand Seiko was launched internationally and they are now as well known as the top swiss luxury brands. 
 
One of our fascinations with Grand Seiko is the watchmaker’s ability to create an artisan quality watch, hand finished with every movement and case finishing done by expert watchmakers who have been doing it for decades. Grand Seiko watches are made 100% in-house - their movements, cases, dials…. everything. Not many Swiss brands can compare with their build quality and their commitment to perfection in their timepieces. One such example we have here is a Grand Seiko SBGR287 automatic watch. This watch is truly the purest expression of a classic Grand Seiko - the exquisite, hand finished case in their trademark ‘Zaratsu’ polishing, the perfectly polished indices and ‘katana’ sharp hour/minute hands, the uniform heat blued steel seconds hand and the seemingly classic white dial. Look closer and the fine details and superior craftsmanship of a Grand Seiko dial will be apparent - it’s a very subtly textured dial with rain-like pattern, similar to what made the Snowflake famous and collectible, albeit in a smaller size. Unlike the snowflake however, the watch comes on the original black alligator strap with a very nice GS deployant to give it a more classic look which lends more focus to the dial.
